Risky Play?

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering what everyone thinks about this picture? The educators and children decided on an agreed height to climb (added a piece of tape to indicate) and the mat for extra safety. Thoughts? What are some of your favourite risky play provisions? Let's share our ideas and thoughts.

Thanks!

  1. Love it! My best childhood memories are spending hours on the tree devouring books and the guavas in season! The mat is an excellent idea for the fall zone.

    1. That sounds amazing! Did you enjoy risky play as a child? I was a pretty big risk-taker myself. I loved climbing trees and walking along fallen logs. I love seeing the sense of pride that children get when they climb trees. I tend to ask children how they are feeling throughout climbing so they can check in with their own comfort level. I also remind children that it's important that they get themselves up so that they know they can get back down too!

  2. I absolutely love what they’ve done here! I see so much potential here. children will always rough play and managing it in some cases can be really challenging , spaces/environments like this are so important.

The matt’s really excited me, i’ve never seen play matt’s in an outdoor environment before and I feel kinda silly I hadn’t thought of it sooner!!

I’m seeing so much play here ,it’s nice seeing a space that doesn’t acquire your typical things I guess.

    1. Great...sometimes sharing spaces this way sparks new ideas. So I'm glad this worked for you - I too had not really thought of this one - and it seems so straightforward.
